Camp Birch Knoll is celebrating the 50th season under the ownership of the Baier Family. The camp is owned and operated by the Baiers, full-time camp professionals.
Ed and Neva Baier bought Camp Birch Knoll in 1966 and have dedicated 50 years to making it the place where Ed says, “the sun always shines”. Ed has spent a lifetime in service to youth, having been a teacher, coach and YMCA Executive prior to leading CBK.
At 85 years young, you will still see Ed and Neva actively involved every day at camp. Whether it is preparing toast in the morning, mowing the lawn, doing remodeling projects or directing an amazing art program, Ed and Neva will brighten your day at CBK.
Gary took over as the Director and Owner of Camp Birch Knoll in 1991. Gary has been at CBK all but one summer since 1967! He worked his way up from dishwasher (not a good one) to Tennis and Archery Instructor and the Program and Tennis Director and finally as the head honcho.
Gary has enjoyed a professional lifetime of working with kids. He has been a high school tennis coach for years, a tennis teaching pro, a YMCA executive and of course his favorite, the CBK Director.
“My strength is my rapport with the girls. I love to see them relax and have fun. I also am always amazed at the transformation they make in their short time at camp. They just blossom! And of course there is no place like camp to create friendships and memories that will last a lifetime”
Ken brings a wealth of talents to the operation at Birch Knoll. An accomplished sailor, boater and water skier, Ken provides a solid base for the waterfront staff for outstanding instruction and safety.
Ken is also a skilled carpenter and all around fix it man. He will also be seen with Ed at the barbecue grill preparing the World Famous “Ed’s Chicken”.
Terese is the key to making CBK a smooth operation. Her attention to detail regarding campers, staff, food service, safety and cleanliness make CBK among the most beautiful and well managed camps you will find.
Terese is an Early Childhood professional with a Master’s degree in Early Childhood. After years as a Director with Head Start, she is now the Director of the 4K program for the DC Everest school district in Schofield, Wisconsin.
Denise was professional cook and Food Service Manager for the school system in Eagle River, Wisconsin. She now directs the school food service program for the Tuscon, Arizona school system!
But, she can’t get CBK out of her system, so she joins us an provides her amazing meals and management for us in the summer.
Jackie is the creative force behind the amazing special events at CBK. Whether it is an evening party, a Sunday all day themed activity, or a crazy dinner, you can count on Jackie to make it a blast!
Jackie is also a key leader at camp. She is involved in staff training and leadership as well as camper welfare! She makes CBK an easy place for everyone to thrive and have fun.
Jackie is also a GIA certified Gemologist, making Birch Knoll one of the few camps in America with a full-fledged, advanced jewelry design and “manufacture” program.
We pay constant attention to issues involving the safety and health of campers and staff. We have First Aid and CPR trained staff, an RN or medic on the premises and excellent medical care in town. We meet or exceed all of the requirements of the County Health Department.
The program at Birch Knoll is designed for everyone to be an active participant and to enjoy success at their own level. The attitude of the camp is one of enthusiasm, fun, and excitement.
We take pride in our instructional program and try for constant and never ending improvement. We also believe there is no place like camp for building self-esteem, self-confidence, and interpersonal skill; skills that will last a lifetime!
We want every camper to leave Birch Knoll with “something to hold on to”. Lifetime memories and friendships are what make camp among the most unique and exciting experiences a child can have.
